Job description
A South Wales Local authority are looking for a Social Worker to join their Pre-Birth Team
The Pre-Birth role is short term work and handed over to the locality team.
This Social Work team provides intensive planned intervention, assessment, and support during pregnancy to parents where support needs and/ or risks have been identified, the key requirement for a referral to the team, being that there are no children in the care of parents so this means that parents may have older children who have been removed from their care. The aim of the team is to assess, provide support, safety plan and risk manage the safeguarding needs of the unborn baby including initiating care proceedings. The team work closely with Midwifery and other partner agencies to ensure a coordinated approach and there is ample opportunity for multi-agency working. The Pre-Birth Team is a small, specialist team that has developed since 2017 with the main aim to ensure appropriate planning during the pre-birth stage. Due to the nature and complexity of the work, you would carry a caseload between 10-15 cases and work with the families until point of transfer following birth.

Your responsibilities as a Social Worker:
- To work with individuals, families, carer groups and communities to help them make informed decisions, enabling them to clarify and express their needs and contribute to service planning.
- To assist users to enhance their independence and coping skills.
- To assess needs, risks and options, taking into account legal and other requirements, including child protection and protection of vulnerable adults.
- To assess, identify, plan, implement and review the circumstances of unborn babies and their families and the need for procedural and legal intervention to meet their immediate needs
Requirements of you as a Social Worker:
- A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW/CQSW)
- Post qualification experience in Children's Social Work
- You will need to have managed a complex caseload including Court work
- Must hold a full UK Driving Licence
- This post has a requirement for registration with Social Care Wales.

Salary: up to £40,478 d.o.e. + £5000 Market supplement payment
