Job description

Birmingham Children's Trust are looking for a Senior Practitioner to join their new and developing dynamic frontline service within the Complex and Enduring Mental Health Team.


About the Role:

Ascent is a service within Birmingham Children's Trust is focussed on bringing about meaningful change, preventing admission/readmission to Tier 4 mental health services and Safeguarding Children and Young people.

The Children and Young People who we work with have experienced reoccurring mental health crisis and/or Acute mental ill health resulting in Tier 4 admission and detention under the Mental Health Act 1983.

The service is developing an effective model of intervention that is embedding Relational, Systemic Principals and Trauma Informed Practice along with a broader range of tools and perspectives.

The Service is committed to working in partnership with children, families and partner agencies to safeguard; understand the broader mental health issues and intervene to address Social Issues impacting on young people's mental health, recovery and development.

We would like forward thinking social work professionals to join our service to safeguard and protect our children and young people in Birmingham

The work is varied and challenging and encompasses work with children in need to those children in care and everything in between.

Recognising the complexity and Challenge of the young people that we work with a there is a maximum case load of 11 Children and young people per worker. There is also a clear programme of support via group supervision that takes place every 2nd week that is alternated with development and training sessions that take place on the remaining weeks.

Your responsibilities as a Children's Social Worker:

  • Perform direct work with children and families
  • Demonstrate care planning skills to critically evaluate risks to make effective decisions
  • Co-ordinate and lead a risk management plan to protect children from harm

Requirements of you as a Children's Social Worker:

  • A relevant Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW/CQSW)
  • A valid Social Work England registration
  • Must have 2+ years frontline experience
  • A valid UK driving license and vehicle is advised

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands

Umbrella pay rate of £32.33 per hour
