The Role

A Local Authority in West Sussex is looking for a Social Worker to join their Family Safeguarding Team.

This is for a full-time, permanent position.

As the Social Worker you will act as a professional who practices effectively with high quality judgement, in situations of complexity, risk, uncertainty and challenge in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework. Manage caseloads with confidence and independence and are recognised as a source of reliable knowledge and advice and use your initiative to broaden your expertise.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Act as a professional representative for the service by delivering an excellent service to people who access or need the service. Act with integrity and respect, ensuring at all times the needs of the individuals are paramount.
  • Work with a diverse caseload, seeking support where required to meet workload deadlines.
  • Promote excellent standards of Social Work practice for children and families using skills in assessment/a range of intervention in order to impact change with the ability to explain and justify decisions.
  • Assess needs, risks and options taking into account legal and County Council requirements.
  • Report any allegation or suspicions of abuse or potential abuse of a vulnerable person to an immediate manager or supervisor.
  • Ensure effective implementation of department policies and procedures in line with statutory responsibilities and contribute to development work as required. Job Description & Person Specification

  • Build effective relationships based on clear communication and respect with children, young people and families.
  • Work effectively with partner organisations using transparency and honesty to get positive outcomes for children and families.
  • Manage conflicting and competing priorities while remaining resilient when working with children and families with challenging behaviour, who may place significant emotional demands on you as the post holder.
  • Responsible for working flexibly out of office hours to assist customers, carers and families.
  • Responsible and accountable for small expenditures.
  • Help to support case conferences and produce quality assessments, taking shared responsibility and be accountable for your professional development.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification e.g. Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent as recognised by the relevant professional body.
  • Registration with the relevant professional registration body and maintaining registration with that body.
  • Knowledge of theoretical Social Work concepts and practices, with demonstrable examples of dealing with complex issues, for example, attachment, impact of developmental trauma and child development.
  • Experience of effectively coaching and supervising others, acting as practice role model and promoting exemplary practice.
  • Experience of managing levels of risk within a caseload.
