Permanent social work FAQs

Do you charge candidates for registering with us?

No, our service for candidates is completely free and on a consultative basis.

What geographical location do you cover?

We have permanent social work roles all over the UK.

Will I be assigned a designated consultant?

Yes, you will. Our consultants work closely with our candidates on a one to one basis, to ensure your career requirements are understood and you’re well prepared for the interviews we arrange for you.

My CV has minimal information, do you provide a CV service?

Yes, one of our experienced consultants will help with a CV writing service to give your knowledge the right exposure on paper, and we’ll put together a front page for you to summarise your experience.

Do you assist with interview preparation?

Yes, we will help you every step of the way during your search for a new social work role.

Will my CV be sent to anyone without my permission?

No, we will never send your CV to any clients without your permission first, and we will only send your CV to jobs which are relevant to you.

Do you find roles for newly qualified social workers?

Due to the need for you to undertake an Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE), we do not normally work with newly qualified social workers. It is advised applications are directed to local authorities or associated organisations with specific programs to support this requirement. We do on some occasions have newly qualified roles with a select number of independent fostering agencies, so it is best to inquire with us.

Why don’t I just apply to a local authority or private company myself?

Our client list spans the whole of the UK. Our long lasting relationships determine that we have access to most vacancies before they are given to the open market, plus we save you the time of having to complete applications and trawl through various job websites. We are also able to negotiate favourable salaries and start dates to aid the smooth transition into a new role through our introduction.

Do you find jobs for overseas candidates?

Yes we do. Where our clients may be looking to employ overseas nationals, we will normally run specific campaigns for this. We do also have occasional requirements outside this which we would be able to assist those looking to secure a social work job in the UK.

Who do you recruit for?

We place permanent qualified social workers in local authorities, hospitals, independent fostering agencies, charities, and non-profit groups. If you have a different type of organisation that isn't listed here and are looking for qualified social workers, speak to us so we can assess your needs accordingly.

How do you recruit?

Our consultants have access to a database of 6000 social workers, work closely with specialist job boards for the sector, and are experienced in sourcing hard to find talent that is not necessarily available in the public domain. We also have a high number of social workers approach us to find permanent employment through our excellent reputation, word of mouth and referrals from our existing social work candidates.

Do you provide an overseas recruitment service?

Yes we do. We can provide candidates from any nationality who hold the relevant qualifications and skills to undertake a social work post in the UK. We can do this on an individual basis or by arranging a specific international recruitment campaign and assessment service. You can contact our permanent recruitment division for further information.

What social work specialities do you recruit for?

We recruit for permanent social workers who specialise in working with both adults and children.

Can you offer executive search or headhunting?

Yes, we work with our clients on a retained basis to hire senior management and executive level appointments.

Can you offer bulk recruitment services?

We have a specialist team at Charles Hunter Associates who are able to act upon bulk requirements. Just call us and ask to discuss this unique service.

Can you offer confidential recruitment?

We understand that confidentiality is sometimes necessary when hiring for new permanent social workers, so we offer a confidential recruitment service to those who may require it. This means there will be no public adverts for the vacancy, and we will keep your company name private from potential candidates until they’re successful in securing an interview.

Do your services include assistance with the onboarding process?

Yes, our back office compliance team can assist you in all aspects of the recruitment process for successful hires which includes assistance and administration with the onboarding process. This would involve online and paper applications, document verification, DBS checking, and reference checks.

How do you work out our fees?

Our fees are based on the service we offer (bulk, contingency or headhunting) and would be confirmed upon taking a job order from you.
